Before You Set Foot on a Lot

Negotiating and Ordering

Negotiate the "out-the-door" price as one number, not the monthly paymentFocusing on monthly payment lets a dealer hide a bad price inside a longer loan.
Get quotes from more than one dealership for the same trim and options, by phone or email, before visiting in person
Ask for a full written price breakdown covering vehicle price, taxes, title, registration, and dealer fees before agreeing to anything
Question every added fee or add-on package (paint protection, VIN etching, extended warranty) and decline anything you don't actually want if add on fees presentThese are often pure profit add-ons and negotiable or removable.

Before You Sign
